What We Do

Who We Are
Feed the Gap, Inc. is a nonprofit 501 C-3 fundraising organization providing research and programs to end child hunger in our state. We are a group of professional individuals donating our time to resolve this problem.  We are united in this, our common goal, because it is the right thing to do, and it can be done.  We use a cost effective model funding programs, which we create, to collaborate with organizations that have efficient, real-value processes. We assure our donors their funds will feed the most children possible and with the most nutritious food available. We track and report to our donors how their monies are spent.

Why
In Idaho, there are essentially 92,000 food insecure children, with 32 percent of these children unqualified for nutritional aid.  30,000 children are worrying about food in our state. Idaho has one of the largest percentages of people earning minimum wage in the United States. Even though these children’s parents are working, at times, there simply is not enough money for the most basic of needs, food for their children.*

Proper nutrition is essential to the growth and development of children. Not only are these children not receiving enough food to develop healthy bodies and brains, but they return to school Monday morning ill from lack of food over the weekend. Research indicates that hungry children do more poorly in school and have lower academic achievement because they are not well prepared for school and cannot concentrate.**

How
Feed the Gap’s first program in our three part strategy to end child hunger in our state, is making sure hungry children are fed in our schools.  While the USDA has made it easier for qualifying children to be fed in the school system; Feed the Gap, Inc. is the final safety net for non-qualifying food insecure children to be fed in the classroom.
